A highly customized Squarespace 7.1 website for an online course of bass guitar lessons.
Andrew Freed is the founder of Bass Freedom. In just one year, Andrew launched his online program for bass guitar lessons and gathered over 200,000 followers on social media. It was time to replace his homepage with something that matched the level of detail in his online program, while maintaining his branding & retro vibe.
Andrew gave me his brand guidelines: use his existing (and incredible) logo, a darker feel, his same retro font, and pops of purple. We had several Zoom sessions before I started designing. During these sessions I really got to know him and his brand so that I could best capture his style & vibe on the website, as well as the flow of his online bass lessons.
I pitched Andrew a vibrant purple palette, an outer space vibe, a modern font pairing with his retro font, and then a whole bunch of puns that would be used in each of the new sections I proposed.
What the homepage literally says is only amplified by what is implied through the design. Puns, SVG Animations of bass guitar strings, and even a back-to-top button shaped like a guitar pick — all of these come together to create more than just a homepage. The end result? Andrew and I created an experience.
